“Valuable read for all church leaders”

June 18, 2026 By Daniel Im

Happy Birthday to my book baby: The Discipleship Opportunity turns two today!! 🥳🎉🎊

Thank you to those of you who have read and reviewed the book on Amazon or Goodreads. It’s been super encouraging to see pastors, professors, denominational leaders, disciple-makers, and other leaders use this book in their ministries, as reflected in some of the reviews.

I pray that we will seize the discipleship opportunity before us to focus on the interested seekers and disciples in our churches and communities, while continuing to pray and ask the Holy Spirit to nudge and stir the hearts of the uninterested sleepers and consumers.

Dear (if you work for a church),

February 9, 2026 By Daniel Im

Every week, I get the privilege to share what’s on my heart with our Beulah Alliance Church staff team. After writing this week’s letter, I felt led to share it more broadly, in hopes that it will encourage anyone and everyone who works at a church (regardless of whether you’re serving in a ministry or non-ministry role). Feel free to use it and adapt it for your context as you wish! Here it is:

Hey team,

It’s so easy to fall into the daily routines of our work, projects, and to-do lists that we forget why we do what we do. So, I hope the next few lines serve to encourage and remind you of the God-given calling we share by working here at ___________ (fill in the name of your church).

We aren’t organizing events for people to consume,

We aren’t delivering goods and services for people to buy,

We aren’t entering data for reporting, charts, and graphs,

We aren’t matchmaking people with one another because people are lonely,

We aren’t entertaining children and youth so that their parents can have some free time.

At ________ (fill in the name of your church), we are partnering with the Holy Spirit:

To awaken the sleepers, seekers, consumers, and disciples* in ___________ (your city) to the reality of this spiritual world we live in,

To help people experience and be transformed by God’s incredible and unconditional love for them, and

To join Jesus in His mission that He has graciously called all of us into.

And I am so grateful that we get to do this together.

Love you team,

*This specific phraseology is from a quadrant I wrote about in my book The Discipleship Opportunity: Leading a Great-Commission Church in a Post-Everything World.

If there’s no God…

December 10, 2025 By Daniel Im

If there’s no God, then when it really matters, there’s no rule book and no umpire to make the call on who’s right and who’s wrong.

If there’s no God and we’re merely a sophisticated species of animal, then we have to do things the same way animals do. We have to fight.

If there’s no God, then the biggest, loudest, stubbornest player wins. We see this on the world stage. We see it in the school playground. We see it in our offices and our homes. And so any peace we enjoy is always brittle and often broken.

Is there any way we can say that there is such a thing as right and wrong, rather than just “the strongest wins”?

It’s in light of this that the Christmas story is good news, because what Christmas says is There is a God. There is a reference point. And therefore, there can be peace. – Sam Chan

If you’re missing peace in your life (or know someone who is), I want to invite you to read through this short 63 page book by my friend, Sam Chan.

What To Do With The Consumers in Your Church

November 19, 2025 By Daniel Im

What do you do with the consumers in your church?

Do you challenge them? Appease them? Or abandon them?

Here’s a video teaching that I did on this topic from my book, The Discipleship Opportunity: Leading a Great-Commission Church in a Post-Everything World.

If you would like to dig deeper into this topic, check out chapter 6 of The Discipleship Opportunity, where I unpack—not only what we can do with the consumers in our churches—but how we can preach and speak to them too.

2025 Writer of Colour Award for The Discipleship Opportunity

October 27, 2025 By Daniel Im

On October 6, 2025, I was delighted to accept the Writer of Colour Award at The Word Awards for my latest book, The Discipleship Opportunity: Leading a Great-Commission Church in a Post-Everything World. As I was writing this book, the question burning in my heart, my soul, and my mind was how we could be more faithful to Jesus’ Great Commission in this post-everything world we’re living in. I’m so grateful to hear all the stories from the pastors and church leaders who have told me about the different ways this book has caused them to rethink and shift how they disciple, preach, and evangelize.

The Word Awards is an annual awards program hosted by The Word Guild to honour the best of Canadian Christian writing from the previous year.
